The article describes dynamic and simulation modeling techniques, which facilitate development of state-of-the-art tools for modeling and calculation of flowsheets. It also examines modeling options for ore preparation flowsheets that enable handling all kinds of tasks without any full-scale testing, thereby saving resources and time in working on design and engineering solutions. It provides a review of the latest versions of dedicated software tools for modeling of crushing and grinding flowsheets developed by mechanical engineering companies and research centers: PlantDesigner 10.0 (developer Sandvik Rock Processing), BRUNO 3.3 (developer Metso Minerals), JKSimMet 6.0 (developer Minerals Research Center JKMRC), USIM PAC 3.2 (developer Research Center BRGM). The description of each of the software tools contains specific parameters, such as principle of operation, database, modeling output, interface friendliness, etc. The advantages and deficiencies of each software package are also addressed. The summary outlines general conclusions on common and distinctive features of the software tools, on their substantive weaknesses and benefits, which should facilitate selection of any specific software tool for modeling and calculation of ore preparation flowsheets.
