Laboratory test results of PR-3 industrial refractometer, produced by «Technocon», St. Petersburg, are presented. The industrial refractometer principle of operation is based on solution index of refraction and temperature measurement, and using obtained data for solution concentration and density calculation. Tests were performed on solutions similar in composition to dissolution liquor and circulating brine in potash fertilizer production. Distilled water and chemically pure salts were used for solutions preparation: potassium chloride, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium sulphate. Pycnometer method was used for analyzed solutions density measurement. Then index of refraction of a solution with known density was measured by industrial refractometer. The solutions density and refraction index data at different temperatures are tabulated. Linear equations of dependence between solution's density and refraction index at different temperatures are derived. Graphs of agreement between experimental points and those predicted by regression model at different temperatures of solutions are presented. A high degree of correlation between density and refraction index measurement results is demonstrated. It is shown, that refractometric method is more precise, if compared with currently used density determination methods, and may be applied in continuous automat ic brine density measurement at halurgy facilities.
