Chernye Metally

The Rolling and other Metal Forming Processes section opens the September issue of the journal. Here, the general concept of the channel calibration optimization and the model structure are presented, which makes it possible to use both one general and two different optimality criteria according to the optimization goals at different stages of solving the task. It was shown that some parameters of the cross-sectional profile of a hot-rolled strip can be used to predict the probability of strip breakage during cold rolling. In a final article of this section, dependencies to determine the force on the drawing rollers of the leveling and tempering unit of the continuous galvanizing line were given.

The largest Pipe Production section of the issue contains seven articles. In particular, technical solutions aimed at minimizing the negative impact of sheet-to-pipe stage on product quality characteristics have been proposed. A solution to eliminate metal loss during the setup of the piercing mill, based on the use of modern digital technologies, including BigData and artificial intelligence technologies, was also presented. A new technology for the production of seamless stainless tubes in coils for LNG equipment was proposed. The use of computer modeling methods for predicting the surface quality of pipes and finding ways to reduce crack formation is considered. A study, carried out to establish factors affecting the change in tubes ovality, was described. The possibility of reducing the technological increase to compensate thinning of the wall during stamping of bottoms from carbon and low alloy steels was shown.

The Heating and heat treatment section describes the methodology for studying industrial units based on the Phoenix TM automated system, which allows to improve heating processes and is applied both at domestic and foreign enterprises. From foreign authors` materials, the reader learns about a new annealing line at Bilstein company and about a progressive method, alternative to classical heat treatment, developed by Deutsche Edelstahlwerke.

The Economics and Finance section presents material devoted to the study of the directions of world metallurgical production development, the dynamics of world steel production, as well as the issues of domestic metallurgy modernization.

The From the History of Metallurgy section concludes the issue. It gives a detailed overview of the technology of armored corps production of Third Reich’s tanks, which participated in the battles of World War II.
