SMS Meer. New hydraulic horizontal forging machine

SMS Meer, Germany, has successfully developed the first hydraulic horizontal forging machine of type SMI 430 / 8 MN. The machine is used for preforming of parts, which are subsequently given their intermediate or final form in the die. The machine enables set-up times to be reduced and productivity to be increased.

This new horizontal forging machine is a special type of the SMX radial forging machine from SMS Meer. With its special design, a defined mass distribution in the forgings, processed subsequently in closed-die forging maschines, is generated with the aid of forming tools.

A special feature of the horizontal forging machine is the integrated die shifting device. As a result, a second die form can be quickly used within one forging process. The advantage for the customer: set-up times are minimized and output increases.

The first machine has been commissioned by a Japanese customer. This plant is equipped with two forging manipulators and an additional manipulator for fully automatic loading and unloading.
