VHE Pot Repair at Alcoa Fjardaal

15.02.2013, 14:56

VHE has been steadily increasing production at the ALCOA Fjardaal pot repair facility since it was formally commissioned in June 2012.

Ramp up had targetted the rated throughput of eleven pots per month by February 2013 and this has been successfully achieved.

VHE is responsible for all pot refurbishment operations including pot isolation and removal from the potrooms through stripping, repairing and relining shells to reinstalling and reconnecting the repaired pots. All operations are carried out by VHE staff with the sole exception of cathode rodding, which is undertaken by Fjardaal employees.

The Pot Repair Facility has a floor area of 4000 sq.m. and is able to re-line three pots simultaneously. There are 336 pots in the potrooms at Alcoa Fjardaal, each one of which needs re-lining every 5-7 years.

Velaverkstaedi Hjalta Einarssonar - VHE is a major mechanical fabricator, offering a comprehensive range of design, manufacturing and site services. VHE now provides all Stimir solutions to the primary aluminium industry, with particular focus on the Rodding Plant. All aspects of design and fabrication are undertaken at VHE’s own facilities, ensuring total quality control and on-time delivery.
