Abstract

This article considers the information about the development of new types of calcium products at Chepetsky Mechanical Plant. It is noted that until 1990-ies, only ingots of distilled and monolithic calcium had been manufactured as two main types of production. These ingots were used for the fabrication of calcium shavings for the reduction melting of uranium, zirconium and hafnium from fluorides and the reduction of niobium from oxide. The shavings were made by means of butt-end milling or turning. The production of new types of calcium products began in 1980 and is still carrying out. The technologies and equipment for their realization are based on the following results:
-the results of research and development of fabrication methods of calcium and its alloys;

-the research results of methods of calcium products geometry formation by casting, cutting, shaping and condensation from a gas phase. The industrial manufacturing of the following types of products is mastered:
1. Ingots of alloys of calcium with aluminium, magnesium and nickel, fabricated by melting of initial components and fusion pouring into a mould.
2. Granular calcium and its alloys with aluminium, magnesium and nickel, fabricated by the dispersion of fusion stream in inert atmosphere.
3. Dispersed materials of the targed size, fabricated by milling of the large shaving in hammer crushers or knife crushers.
4. Briquettes of calcium and pseudoalloys of calcium with the second component, produced by means of shaping.
5. Powder-made wire with the dispersed calcium, its alloys and mixtures with other materials in a steel shell.
6. Calcium wire, fabricated by pressing.
7. Ingots of distilled calcium with the desired geometry, fabricated by means of condensation from a gas phase.
The article also describes the compositions of new calcium materials, the equipment for their production and areas of their usage.
