Abstract

Prosthetic dentistry has recently revealed a tendency to the constantly growing requirements for the Plagodent (Super СM) noble-based alloy, which is developed and manufactured by OJSC “SIC “Supermetal”. There is also a remarkable tendency to increase the application area of the alloy in different dentures. All of this necessitates some additional investigations of Plagodent important operating properties. The surface structure is analyzed by optical and electronic microscopy methods. Mechanical testing is performed, including the most rapid and quite informative method of determination of the mechanical durability level — Vickers hardness. Adhesive testing is carried out in accordance with an international standard ISO 9693:1999 (E). It is determined the adhesion durability of the Plagodent alloy with the ceramic mass IPS d.SIGN, which is manufactured by one of the most popular firms in the dental world (Ivoclar Vivadent). During the operational prosess of the alloy, its mechanical durability is shown to the logically diminish (alloy hardness decreases by for about 40 HV) because of the intermediate firing, during the drift process of ceramic material. However, the material durability is still significant, which provides the good functionality, longevlity and comfort of dentures. The adhesive properties of the Plagodent alloy are also on the high level (57.7±3.1 MPa) and exceed the standart values more than twice (25 MPa, ISO 9693:1999 (E)). This indicates a good adhesion of the ceramic mass with the material. All of this is confirmed by the successful ten-year practice of using the Plagodent (Super CM) alloy in the prosthetic dentistry.
