Abstract

The presented paper is devoted to the 5th Anniversary of International Medical Geology Association Regional Division Russia — N.I.S. establishment. The paper demonstrates the achievements of scientists of the Commonwealth of Newly Independent States in the field of Medical Geology which were done during the last decade and seeks to bring the attention of the scientific community to the problem of population health and natural ecosystems protection, as well as to highlight the perspectives of Medical Geology in solving the problems of economic cooperation of N.I.S. Medical Geology is the science dealing with the relationships between geological factors and health. It has long been recognized that the environment affects our health. However, in order to understand the complex relationships between the environment and health, the collaboration of professionals in the fields of both medicine and geology is required. The IMGA RD Russia-N.I.S., following after the International Medical Geology Association, aims to provide a network and a forum to bring together the combined expertise of geologists and earth scientists, environmental scientists, toxicologists, epidemiologists, and medical specialists in order to characterise the properties of natural geological processes and agents, as well as their technological analogues, the dispersal of geological material and their effects on human populations. The knowledge of Medical Geology should be eagerly sought in the near future because of the realization of stages signed into law by the Russian Government Strategy 2030 which is targeted on the development of the geological branch and land use planning and management of the mineral resources centers of economical growing in Siberia and the Far East.
