Magnesium and its alloys are promising materials for medical applications, automotive engineering, and other industrial sectors. However, they are difficult to process due to their tendency toward rapid strain hardening, crack formation, stress corrosion cracking, and failure. One solution to this problem is the production of layered sheet materials consisting of aluminum and magnesium alloys by asymmetric rolling. In this study, the finite element method has been used to predict the stress and temperature gradients in a 6061/AZ31B/6061 layered composite during asymmetric rolling, taking into account the kinematic factor. Asymmetric rolling has been simulated using the QForm software package at initial material temperatures ranging from 300 °C to 400 °C, with a roll speed ratio (V 1 /V 2 ) ranging from 1 to 2 and a total reduction of approximately 75%. The thicknesses of the 6061/AZ31B/6061 layered composite have been 2 mm/3 mm/2 mm. It has been found that following an initial decrease in temperature within the deformation zone, the temperature increases, indicating intensive conversion of mechanical energy into thermal energy. At the same time, the central AZ31B magnesium layer undergoes greater heating than the outer 6061 aluminum layers due to limited heat removal to the tooling. It has been revealed that increasing the asymmetry coefficient reduces the stress level and rolling force and also promotes an increase in relative reduction. The simulation results have been validated at Zhilyaev Laboratory of Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials using a 400 asymmetric rolling mill, taking into account energy and force parameters. Experimental results have confirmed that increasing the roll speed ratio makes it possible to reduce rolling forces and increase relative reductions over the entire investigated temperature range. The study has demonstrated that asymmetric rolling is an effective method for controlling thermal effects.
