Abstract

This article focuses on the development of the theory and technology for the deep arc recovery (DAR) of elements from technogenic waste, intended for the refining, deoxidation, and alloying of iron-carbon melts. A key technological requirement for the DAR process is the synchronous consumption of the ore-reducing mixture (ORM) and the composite iron-graphite electrode (CGE), which together constitute the ore-reducing unit (ORU). To predict the consumption rate of the CGE when using an ORM based on various types of technogenic waste, a four-factor regression model has been developed and verified. This model accounts for the influence of several parameters: the minimum and effective ionization potentials of the gas phase, the thermal conductivity of the oxide additive within the electrode mixture (EM), and the gas evolution resulting from the carbothermic reduction of its oxide components. Using this regression model, projections for the compositions of the ORM and EM were prepared for the utilization of ash from thermal power plants via the DAR method; these data are essential for developing an effective technology for the ladle treatment of steel using such materials.
