Abstract

One of the tasks of modern mechanical engineering is to improve the performance properties of tool steels. Carbon tool steels are widely used for the production of various cutting and measuring tools, as well as parts that require high strength and wear resistance. These steels are in demand for the production of tools and parts where a combination of affordable cost, strength, and sufficient cutting ability is important. By now, the path of obtaining new materials has been largely exhausted, and it is unlikely that we will be able to obtain compositions that significantly exceed the physical and chemical properties of existing ones. The complexity of alloying and the resulting increase in the content of strengthening phases, such as in high-speed steels, has led to improved performance while reducing the technological ductility of the alloys at various stages of production, from forging and rolling to cutting and grinding. This can be confirmed by the recent trend of solving the problems of improving the performance characteristics of materials and ensuring high reliability, safety, and environmental protection of products by improving the existing technologies of their heat treatment. In view of the above, the research topic is quite relevant. This work studied the effect of heat treatment modes on the physical and mechanical properties and microstructure of samples made of carbon tool steel. The purpose of this work is to improve the performance of carbon tool steel by heat treatment.
