The article presents the results of an analysis of mathematical calculations of blast furnace smelting parameters (specific consumption of coke, blast, natural gas (NG), specific yield of slag and blast furnace gas, composition and yield of tuyere gas, coefficients of replacement of natural gas and coke, degree of direct reduction, carbon balance) with injection of alternative fuel (AF) made of municipal solid waste (MSW) into the blast furnace at a flow rate of 40 kg/t of hot metal. Three types of AF were used as the studied raw materials: MSW sorted and crushed to a fraction of less than 2 mm; pellets from a Russian manufacturer made of sorted MSW; pellets from a foreign manufacturer made of sorted MSW. It has been shown that when feeding AF at the specified flow rate, the reduction in coke consumption is 11.2-18.6 kg/t of hot metal, and the reduction in NG consumption is 3.5-11.8 m³/t of hot metal. Blast consumption is reduced by 21.7-47.8 m³/t of hot metal. The hydrogen content in the tuyere gas increases by 0.3-1.4 %. The degree of direct reduction of iron decreases by 0.4-1.0 %. The coefficient of NG replacement with alternative fuel is 0.09-0.29 m³/kg AF, the coefficient of coke replacement is 0.47-0.52 kg/kg AF. This paper examines the risks of injecting AF into a blast furnace due to the instability of the composition of the AF made of MSW. It is shown that varying the elemental composition of the AF over a wide range (10 % carbon) leads to a change in coke consumption of 13 kg/t of hot metal (4 %) and in NG consumption of 2.5 m³/t of hot metal (1 %).
