The article presents the results of a study on the influence of magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) parameters on the quality of threaded surfaces of drill rod tool joints. The relevance of the study is determined by the high proportion of drill pipe failures associated with insufficient thread surface quality, particularly roughness, which affects the load-bearing capacity of joints under variable loads. The aim of the study was to establish the relationships between the roughness of external and internal threaded surfaces and the process parameters of MAF. Based on experimental studies carried out using a full factorial design with variation in magnetic flux density, processing time, and workpiece rotational speed, physico-statistical models were developed to describe the dependence of the roughness parameter Ra on the process factors. It was found that processing time has the greatest effect on roughness reduction; at B = 0.8 T, t = 540–600 s, and n = 100–150 min-1, the minimum roughness of the threaded surfaces reached Ra = 0.4–0.5 μm. The results confirm the effectiveness of magnetic abrasive finishing in improving the quality and durability of drill pipe tool joints.
