Abstract

The Department of Mine Surveying, Geodesy and Geographic Information Systems of the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) occupies one of the most worthy places in educational, scientific and technical activities among all mining departments of our country. The creation of a mine surveying department in Perm in 1953 was due to the objective needs of mining and oil production of that time. The Kizelovsky coal basin worked intensively, the most powerful potash mines were built on the territory of the Verkhnekamsk deposit of potassium-magnesium salts (VKMKS), and the oil wealth of the Western Urals was developed. All this required qualified mine surveyors. Time has shown that the decision to create a department at the Perm Mining Institute was correct and far-sighted. Currently, the staff of the department exceeds 50 employees, including 2 doctors of technical sciences, 9 candidates of sciences, 4 graduate students. The department recruits 20 students of the specialty «Surveying» and «Applied Geodesy» to budget full-time places. The department abandoned the correspondence form of surveying and geodetic education. The department is equipped with the most modern surveying and geodetic equipment and software. The department is intensively developing areas related to rock mechanics in the development of ore deposits and hydrocarbon deposits, monitoring the deformation processes of the earth's surface and rock mass, geoinformation technologies. The main customers of the scientific and technical work of the department are PJSC «Uralkali», LLC «Eurochem-UKK», LLC «Yakovlevsky GOK», subsidiaries of OJSC «Surgutneftegaz», PJSC «NK Rosneft», PJSC «LUKOIL», PJSC «GAZPROM».
