The results of testing of mechanical properties of metal forgings produced from two 12 % Cr steel (Kh12MFA) ingots with mass 1,200 kg are presented in the paper. One of these ingots was forged via the new patented process using nonorthogonal feedings, and other ingot – via conventional technology. To obtain an information about the resource of mechanical properties of this forged steel, the special pattern for cutting of forgings, for cutting out of billets and shearing of testing samples having 4-axis orientation along four forging horizons was applied. The studies were directed on investigation of influence of macro-shear strains on mechanical properties of metal forgings manufactured by opendie forging. It should be mentioned that this information should be obtained during testing of samples oriented not only in three main directions (longitudinal, radial and tangential), but also for 16 samples oriented in 4 directions and located in four forging horizons. In such way we received information concerning the resource of mechanical properties for the whole investigated volume of the parts of both forgings. It is proposed to solve the formulated tasks by creation of extracted metal flows in the case of single reduction applied to the directions that are nonorthogonal to solidifi cation shrinkages as well as nonorthogonal to longitudinal dendrites axis. Another way to solve these tasks is creation of nonorthogonal macro-shear strains which are perpendicular to longitudinal dendrites axis. The forging technologies and forging dies were realized in the industrial conditions, and it is possible now to resolve in complex way the forging tasks in the laboratorial conditions of the National University ODF Science and technology “MISiS” and at “Ruspolymet” open-die production, independently of statistic quality of ingots and features of their macrostructure. Non-conventional form of graphic presentation of testing results was proposed, which gave the possibility to make quantitative appreciation of the resource of mechanical properties for metal forgings produced with macro-shears.
