The German metallurgical company Salzgitter Flachstahl is among leading European producers of flat steel products, such as hot-rolled and cold-rolled strip, sheen and band. It operates several rolling mills, including 2000 hot strip mill and continuous 5-stand tandem rolling mill, as well as continuous pickling line. BWG company has modernized this tandem mill, so its entrance section starts to operate in continuous mode. Two years of successful operation confi rmed that production conditions are improved and the concrete project aims have been achieved. The following positive eff ects of this modernization can be listed: increase of degree of operating availability; essential lowering of amount of metal losses and improvement of quality of fi nished products; decreased consumption of rolling rolls with simultaneous improvement of strip surface quality.
