Abstract

The subject of the research is aged cakes (content: over 1 % WO3, 0.5 % Mo, 76–80 % of calcite, fluorite, quartz, calcium, magnesium and ferrous oxides, wollastonite and small amount of other compounds) accumulated in the course of metallurgical processing of tungsten concentrates. The objective of the research is to substantiate the use of nonmetals of cakes as a mineral supplement in heavy concrete production given the cake extract possesses satisfactory metal content up to the production requirements. Density fractionation of cakes is carried out in ferromagnetic colloidal solution based on astral oil. The functional connection of the effective density of ferrocolloid and the external heterogeneous magnetic field strength is the basis for the density separation of minerals. The analyzing assembly of a U-shape magnetic system 350 mm long has its poles composed of 40 permanent magnets based on YUNDK 35 alloy, which ensures the field strength to 0.45 T in the interpole space 10 mm wide. The work volume of ferrocolloid is 0.5 dm3, the weight of the device is 80 kg, the device capacity is to 20 kg/h with material size to -1 mm. The application efficiency of gravity separation for cakes is proved. Using the gravity separation equipment (successive cyclones with taper angle of 90 deg), 78.75 % WO3 and 57.18 % Mo was extracted in sink at the content of WO3 18.07 % and Mo 3.25 %. This product can be profitably treated with the existent working technology. It is found that introduction of float of the cake dressing in amount of 20–30 % (relative to concrete amount) as a mineral supplement to heavy concrete composition increases compression strength of concrete. Matching the estimated costs of concrete with the float-based mineral supplement against the cost of concrete from manufacturers shows that the dumped cake processing project yields beneficial fiscal effect.
