The article gives a brief analysis of territorial organization of corporate bodies engaged in mining in the Far Eastern Federal District. The data on ore production in 2008–2012 are quoted. Over 800 deposits containing 25 types of minerals, including 200 ore deposits, operate in the district. Some 500 companies are engaged in mineral mining, including close to 250 gold mines, representing transnational, transregional and large businesses with mainly Russian financial assets. It is shown that local ore reserves are now of minor importance for Russia owing to reappraisal based on the new quality requirements. The peculiarity of the discussed federal district is its socially, naturally, infrastructurally and economically diverse spatial extent. Territorial organization of mining industry in the region features half-clustering. It is of current interest to continue implementation and advancement of the clustering approach in the sphere of mining in the developing region. The authors analyze preconditions for clustering in the lead extraction industry and propose a new mining-andmetallurgical cluster specializing in nonferrous and rare metals. The primary investigation of the territorial–corporate structure of the mining industry in the Far Eastern Federal District shows that justification and elaboration of the intelligent territorial subsoil use management is feasible under joint cooperation of administrative staffs and services, investing public and science.
The research is supported by the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Project No. 12-III-А-08-178.
