Abstract

The paper reveals the role and place of the Belgorod Region in the Russian economy. The performance of industries in the regional economy has been estimated in relation to the general Russian economic performance. The Belgorod Region accounts for 1.4 % of the industrial output of Russia, more than one-third of Russia’s iron ore concentrate production. The region produces 4.8 % of Russia’s agricultural output. The regional economic structure has been studied. The regional industry comprises the complex of mining and processing enterprises. Among the processing industry enterprises the food industryу takes the first place being represented by sugar refineries, meat-packing plants, dairy plants, flour and grain mills, canneries, provender millings and other enterprises. In the structure of factorу shipments sectoral specialization (mining, food industry, machine building, building materials industry) accounts for more than 90 %. Data is submitted on the common mineral resources in the area of the region, as well as the economic performance of the local enterprises carrying out mining operations. Besides, the paper presents the geography of the foreign-policy relations. The commodity structure of export and import in the region is being analуzed. Measures to improve social and economic conditions in the region are revealed. The priorities of the economic policy are designated; state programs carried out in the main directions of the economic development of the region are analyzed.
