The article describes the history of setting-up and sustained development of Oktyabrsky Mine at the Oktyabrsky copper–nickel ore deposit. The mineral and raw material base of the deposit, opening-up technology, mining methods, ground control techniques, processing mechanization and mining improvement prospects are discussed. Under development is the strategic profile through 2030 that schedules the mine production growth to 6.55 Mt yearly from 2024, which is 28% higher than the mine output in 2014. Since 1974 the mine has driven 762 km of underground excavations, including 261 km of developing entries, 30 km of exploring openings, 18 km of production roadways and 453 km of temporary workings, has broken 45.5 Mm³ of rocks and backfilled 43.2 Mm³ of goaf, including 1.6 m3 using dry (rock) backfill. Construction within the mine is fulfilled by Norilskshakhtstoy Group of the Polar Construction Company Ltd., within the scope subject to capacity of start-up complexes in the framework of engineering designs of the Oktyabrsky Mine development.
