Chernye Metally

A material dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Ural Steel is the first one in the July issue. It tells what products the company produces and what large projects it provides.

The "Preparation and beneficiation of raw materials" section presents a model for controlling a magnetic separator based on the Bellman dynamic programming method. The model enables to reduce the maintenance time of this unit.

The “Steel Production” section offers a new technology for metal processing in a cylindrical tundish, based on the centrifugal effect arising from the rotational motion of a liquid bath and aimed at removing non-metallic inclusions.

In the "Foundry" section published material dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the VSTU chair for foundry: it presents the stages of formation and development of the chair, it tells about the outstanding specialists who studied and worked at the chair. In the same section, the authors - representatives of VSTU substantiated the choice of an additive combining properties that slow down the rate of crystallization and cooling of cast iron castings, and proved that the use of controlled cooling can significantly increase the ultimate strength of cast iron without introducing additional alloying elements into its composition. It is also shown that modifying phosphate-borate additives reduce friability, improve formability, lower the thermal conductivity coefficient of a peat-containing heat-insulating mixture, a scientific forecast has been made to reduce their flammability and fire hazard, a new, effective heat-insulating mixture for hot tops of steel castings is presented. The technology of casting of flanged fittings made of austenitic chromium-nickel steel, which minimizes the likelihood of breaking the product tightness, is described.

In the "Mechanical Engineering Technologies" section it is substantiated that a rational combination of modes of operations included in the technological process of precision stamping makes it possible to exclude the subsequent machining of the teeth surfaces of the gears and increase their service properties during operation.

The "Ecology and environmental protection" section presents a basic technological scheme for the treatment of used cutting fluid. The overall protective effect of the scheme is 78.5%.

The "Economics and Finance" section analyzes the impact of the crisis on the situation in the global metallurgy, considers the main factors in the development of the industry in current conditions.

The "From the history of metallurgy" section offers two fascinating materials: about the Center of the metallurgical industry in Cherepovets and about the activities of Charles Gascoigne in Karelia and the Donbass in the second half of the 18th - early 19th centuries.

The issue ends with the "To the 75th anniversary of the Victory" section, which contains material about the Military Memorial Complex "Armored Train No. 13 "Tula Worker".
