Chernye Metally

The eight issue of “Chernye Metally” journal (2016) is opened, as usual by the sections “Iron and steel news of the world” and “News of metallurgical companies”.

R. Shott (Küttner GmbH & Co. KG) presented the article in the section “Iron making”. He paid the main attention to the most important aspects of improvement of pulverized coal injection (PCI) in the blast furnace and on acceleration of pulverized coal gasification. He also analyzed economical aspects of PCU injection using the proposed methods of process optimization.

The section “Tubemaking” includes 3 articles devoted to the 55th anniversary of the Russian Scientific-Research Tube Institute” (RosNITI). I.Yu. Pyshmintsev, general director has described in his paper the main stages of the institute development and strengthening. Another paper in this collection (V.V. Shirokov, A.V. Vydrin et al.) describes determination of deformation area parameters during continuous tube rolling. The proposed technique has been tested and approved at the continuous mill with floating mandrel. The third article in this section presents investigations (together with Gent University, Belgium) of strength and toughness of steels for long-distance pipelines in the direction of tube wall thickness.

M.A. Sulimova and her colleagues from St. Petersburg State Mining University have proved possibility of usage of ferromanganese nodules (FMN) from Finnish Gulf for sewage treatment and cleaning at the enterprises of mineral and raw material complex. Kinetic equations of sorption of phenols and cyanide compounds for FMN are obtained, the principal scheme of adsorption unit for sewage cleaning is presented.

Iron and steel industry invests substantial remedies in usage of potential of possible savings, as well as in lowering of harmful influence on the environment, with especial attention to decrease of heat losses and utilization of heat of waste gases. The review of such “energetic diet” is presented by E. Lange.

The section “Metallurgy and automotive industry” presents the paper about perspective future of steel application in the automobiles. Decrease of automobile weight via usage of lightweight steel components made of high-strength steel with improved parameters will surely rise efficiency of fuel consumption and increase service life of autos.

The issue also contains the conventional sections “Steel as material” and “Economics and finances”.
