Chernye Metally

"Chernye Metally" journal No. 4-2013 has been published.

Conventional section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" is presented by two articles.

D. V. Terentiev, S. I .Platov, Yu. V. Zhirkin, E. I. Mironenkov from Magnitogorsk State Technical University examined simulation of friction conditions during operation of bearing units in slab continuous casting machine for choosing rational lubrication modes. The purpose of the work is the prognosis of friction conditions in rolling contact of bearing units of roll guide of slab continuous casting machine in dependence of lubricant type, method of its delivery to friction unit and technological parameters of casting. Based on the results of undertaken theoretical investigations, lubrication procedures have been developed with usage of "oil-air" lubricating system.

The paper by V. A. Lutsenko (Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy, Ukraine) is devoted to the features of forming the structure and properties of wire rod made of nickel-molybdenum steel of welding usage after softening thermomechanical treatment. It is established, that the minor quantity of areas (up to 10%) of beynit and martensite structure and the mechanism of dislocations transference through these areas provide the high plastic properties of rolled wire during deformation measurements.

The translated section "Iron and Steel Making" includes 4 publications.

State of cokemaking technology is analyzed by the specialists from KBS Kokereibetriebsgesellschaft Schwelgern, Steel Institute VDEh and Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann. Five most modern coke oven plants are operated in Germany, their parameters are presented. The coke oven plant Schwelgern, which was commissioned in 2003, has the largest coke oven chambers in the world.

Chinese and German specialists researched TBM bottom stirring that is a technology introduced worldwide to enhance the metallurgical efficiency of the BOF process. By applying this technology inert gas injection through the bottom of the BOF vessel enhances the mixing effect of the top lance blowing jet. Successful practice at Meishan Steel in China is reviewed.

Progressive steelmaking with different vacuum technology is presented by D. Tembergen and Th. Eichert (SMS Mevac GmbH), while adjustment of required purity for applications with high-alloyed steel grades was researched by Ch. Beiler, M. Schwartz, H.-P. Jung, O. Ziegelmayer (Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH). In this article the different production methods and equipment are compared using the example of a high-alloy material to identify their influence on the degree of purity.

Other papers in this issue are devoted to rolling and finishing operations (Roll shops for pickling line tandem cold mills by Pomini Tenova; Modernization of continuous annealing line of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in Dortmund).

Special publication presents Production facilities for flat products at MMK Metalurji in Turkey. In May 2011, Danieli successfully commissioned his new flat product complex for the production of hot rolled and processed coils, located in Iskenderun, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. This plant, ideally located at the crossroads of the most important trade routes across the Mediterranean sea, is conceived to serve the growing needs of flat steel semi-products in the vast area of the Middle East, the Mediterranean basin and also eastern European markets.

Economical and historic sections are presented, as usual.
