Abstract The technique of qualitative estimation of development of segregation strip in sheet rolled metal has been developed using the ratio of microstructural heterogeneity (KMN). Thermodynamical calculations of the processes for forming chemical heterogeneity in solidification and polymorhous transformation of steel have been done. Micro-X-ray-spectral investigations of segregation strip have been undertaken and ratios of zonal segregation of impurities and alloying elements in continuously cast slab and hot-rolled sheet are calculated.
