Abstract This paper provides highlights of the lining concept of ready-to-use snorkels, factors affecting the performance, criteria for the selection of the right type of bricks and castable refractory materials. Besides, this paper also underpins the importance of the steel construction involved in snorkel manufacturing and concludes with benchmarking the performance of RH degasser snorkels in Germany.
