Abstract Due to insufficient raw materials availability and high costs for energy and raw materials, resource efficiency has been a constant topic for the steel industry in Germany for decades. Numerous technical and technological developments have contributed towards minimizing the use of resources in the production and utilization of steel while maximizing yield. This increased efficiency means optimization of the relationship between resources (such as people, methods, machines and materials) and products of process.
