| Abstract | For the construction of offshore structures, a heavy plate thickness in excess of 50 mm is common. In order to meet the demands voestalpine Stahl Linz up-graded caster No. 5 in the steel plant LD3 for the production of 355 mm thick and 1600 mm wide slabs. Worldwide this is the first time that a slab thickness of 355 mm is produced on a casting machine with straight mold which operates under the principles of bending and straightening with liquid core. |
