Chernye Metally

The May issue is opened by the section “Steel and ferroalloys production” on the use of extrusion briquettes for smelting carbon ferrochrome.

In the section “Rolling and other metal forming processes” a new method for rolling of switch point rails in roughing grooves is considered, which provides increased accuracy of profile elements, stabilizes the rolling process, improves mill productivity, reduces surface rail defects, increases roll resistance. A series of publications on the resistance to deformation of pipe steels is continued - the results of the study of 09G2S steel are described; it has been shown that metal softening at temperatures close to 600°C is of practical importance for determining the technological parameters of the processes of sizing and straightening of pipes in the thermal departments of pipe rolling workshops. New layered compositions mastered in industrial conditions, methods for their preparation, new mills with multi-roll gauges, patented in the USA, Germany, France, Japan, etc. are presented. The distribution of the decarburized layer and the hardness of 50 steel vessels after hot stamping on a rolling-press line is examined. (experience of JSC NPO Pribor).

The section “Heating and heat treatment” shows that hardened steels hardened at 850°C can be used for the production of tools operating in conditions of intensive wear, and steels hardened at 1150°C (for secondary hardness), for the manufacture of impactor tool and tools operating at elevated temperatures.

The section “Production of grinding balls” presents an experimental alloy with a low chromium content, which has high strength and wear resistance, increased impact strength.

The section “Foundry” is devoted to filtering nickel alloy using ceramic foam filters - an effective way to reduce the amount of non-metallic inclusions.

In the section “Energy, Ecology and Recycling” it is proved that out-of-furnace (ladle) treatment of cast iron and steel melts can be considered the best available technology, since it optimizes the majority of environmental indicators for the production of ferrous metals. The possibility of mathematical modeling of the element flow of iron in the territory of a particular region is considered. New two-component atomizers for the secondary cooling system of a continuous caster, reducing the consumption of compressed air by 30%, are introduced.

The section “On the 75th anniversary of the Victory” is devoted to two topics: mastering the production of armored steel at the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works during the Great Patriotic War; the role of L. E. Weisberg in transferring the Kuznetsk Metallurgical Combine to military rails (the primary sources used in this article were first put into scientific circulation).

The issue is completed by the steel industry news.
